With 300 additional lanes added across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and South Africa, UPS is on course to expand its ocean freight services.
“UPS offers LCL services from virtually any origin and destination in the world. By enhancing our direct LCL offering, we’re giving our customers access to more reliable an predictable ocean freight service in more markets. In Asia alone, e added 139 outbound lanes, including 68 from China, to connect retailers and industrial suppliers in Europe an North America to new global markets. Given the increase access to Panama and its presence as one of the fastest growing economies in Latin America, we added direct LCL lanes to this geography as well”, announced Andy Huckbody, vice president of UPS Ocean Freight Services last week.
By offering direct LCL sea freight services for Asian countries such as Vietnam, UPS aims at serving customers which outsource their production works abroad due to lower labour costs. “Expanded LCL lanes also enable companies to continue to mode shift from heavy air freight by reducing overall transportation spend as companies look for cost savings”, said Huckbody.
The freight shipping company reiterated its awareness of the “constantly changing (…) global economic landscape”. For this reason, more direct LCL lanes would be added over the next 12 months.
The overall global enhancements implemented by UPS in 2012 were as follows:
- 139 Asia outbound lanes
- 91 Europe/Middle East/Africa (EMEA) outbound lanes
- 42 Intra-Asia lanes
- 36 Intra-EMEA lanes
- 33 North American outbound lanes
- 15 Latin American outbound lanes
- 7 Intra-Latin American lanes
