Kellogg to reduce carbon footprint of supply chain by increasing use of Manchester Ship Canal

Kellogg, the global cereal company, this week announced its plans to take hundreds of its trucks off the road and increase its use of the Manchester Ship Canal to transport its products.  

The Ship Canal is the largest inland seaway in the UK and the strongest outside London for container cargo generation. The ‘green highway’ between Liverpool and Manchester, owned and operated by by Peel Ports will enable the transportation of 2,500 TEU of Kellogg’s cereal and result in an 85% reduction in road miles in Kellogg’s supply chain.

Paul McCoy of Peel Ports said,  “The shuttle service makes an important contribution to the UK's carbon footprint reduction targets by delivering waterborne goods right to the heart of the country, and it is great to see a world-class company like Kellogg's capitalising on its benefits."

Paul Blears of Kellogg commented, "We are working closely with Peel Ports to activate the increasing opportunities for waterborne transport. By reviewing our supply chain strategy and integrating waterways we are seeing our sustainability goals come to life."
