FedEx Express holds 'Career Camp' in Seoul, South Korea

FedEx Express, the express parcel delivery branch of FedEx Corp, recently held its third annual "Career Camp" in Seoul, South Korea.

40 female students from universities outside of Seoul took part in the three day programme, which involved practical exercises about making job applications, composing effective CVs and undergoing mock interviews. Four of the best students were selected for a Winter internship with FedEx Express in Korea.

Eun-Mi Chae, Managing Director of FedEx Express, Korea, said that the company initiated the programme to help tackle the social issue of unemployment among young people: "our young people with ability and potential are an important driver of our success in today’s business. As a result, FedEx will continue to support the Career Camp to provide practical guidance for our future leaders," she explained.

Although not specifically addressed, we can infer that the fact that the camp was reserved specifically for female students is an attempt to address the under-representation of women in the logistics sector. Other carriers have also recognised the business value of recognising and exploiting unidentified female talent.

So-yeon Park, a student at the camp who went on to be awarded a FedEx internship, commented, ""This program was very practical. I was impressed with the mentoring session in which female seniors working at global companies talked about career paths. As I have been interested in global business, it is pleasure to have an internship opportunity at FedEx, a leading global company."
