TNT to deploy new fleet of electric vehicles in London

TNT has announced plans to deploy a fleet of 15 new electric vehicles to assist parcel delivery across London this spring. It is anticipated that the new fleet will make more than 1,000 international deliveries into the UK capital every day.

The roll-out comes after TNT's successful trial of six Gnewt Cargo vehicles from TNT Express' London City depot over the last 18 months. TNT said that Gnewt Cargo offers a variety of zero-emission delivery options, from bicycles and scooters to vans and trucks, but it is yet to confirm the type of vehicle(s) that will make up its new fleet.

The Mayor of London revealed plans to make Central London an "Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ)" by 2020. This would mean that all vehicles travelling through the area would be zero or low emission.  TNT claims that its new electrical vehicle will contribute to London gaining ULEZ status, given that they save an estimated 316 kg of carbon for every 1,000 litres of fuel currently being used by conventional vehicles.
