According to Newsfront, the Greek media and publishing company, Greece is set to lead a global shipping industry recovery.
2013 saw a record number of orders from Greek Shipowners with Greek companies accounting for 25% of the global order book. Orders last year amounted to over $13bn for the construction of 275 vessels - a year on year increase of a huge 364%.
In addition, the largest international shipping event, Posidonia, is due to take place in Athens from 2-6th June this year, causing many commentators to state that Greece will be at the forefront of ocean freight development in current years.
“As the Greek-owned, ocean-going fleet continues to ride the wave of a dramatic expansion spearheaded by a strategic diversification drive, designed to cement its leadership position globally, the world’s top shipbuilding nations are vying for a prominent position under the spotlight at this year’s Posidonia Exhibition,” said Theodore Vokos, Project Director, Posidonia Exhibitions S.A.
