UPS reports almost 50,000 hours of voluntary work donated to Canadian charities in 2013

500 Canadian charities were the beneficiaries of 49,465 hours of voluntary work carried out by UPS employees in 2013, according to UPS figures published last week. Volunteering time, as well as money and expertise, constitutes a significant part of the delivery of the international courier’s Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy, as it does for many of the larger carriers including DHL and FedEx.

Many of the organisations supported last year were children’s charities, including the Boys and Girls Club of Canada, The BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities and Canuck Place Place Children’s Hospice. Many conservation charities also benefited.

Dan Shea, Vice President of Human Resources in UPS Canada, praised all UPS employees for their involvement, commenting, “Our people are truly the backbone of the company and they play an integral role in bringing our CSR commitments to life. Through the relationships our employees have built we have been able to make a real difference in 2013 - above and beyond our financial contributions. I look forward to leading the company in building on those successes in 2014, and I encourage Canadians across the country to seek out opportunities to make a difference in their own communities."
