UPS opens new facility to improve transit times to Mexico

UPS has announced they are to open a new package sorting and delivery facility within the Texan city of Laredo. The new facility is set to double in capacity compared to its previous building, while using state of the art technology that is advanced to help support and increase the processes that will occur there. UPS customers within the south of Texas will advantage from the improved technologies in experiencing a one-day enhancement in time-in-transit.

UPS have located the new facility so that customers will benefit when shipping to Mexico. Shipping to Mexico has been proven as an imperative market for UPS, with trade between the US and Mexico increasing as much as 113% over the past 10 years. The US Department of Commerce reports more than £1.35 billion in cross-border business occurring every day.

The newly placed Laredo facility will enable customers shipping from South Texas will find that their packages move faster through the UPS system and arriving at the destination sooner. This comes as a result of maximising the potential of cross-border commerce.

Further to this, the Laredo facility will enhance UPS’ portfolio with regards to the services and solutions that offer reliable and trustworthy access to Mexico for international traders.

The new facility will be 33,000 square feet in size, with the ability to provide for up to 66 delivery trucks and trailers. Additional improvements include technology updates that will improve accuracy of sorting, decreasing the need to sort packages. Compared to the previous Laredo facility, these improvements will be noticeable within the working environment itself and will ultimately reduce the amount of miles driven, and therefore fuel consumed.
