DHL's heartfelt logistics partnership with NGO Kinderherzen

DHL Global Forwarding has initiated a pro bono partnership with the German NGO Kinderherzen.

Their collaboration aims to facilitate the transportation of the world’s first mobile heart clinic for infants to various countries across the globe.

The primary destination for this groundbreaking clinic is El Salvador, where an international team of heart surgeons and medical professionals will provide complimentary life-saving surgeries and therapies to infants suffering from congenital heart diseases (CHD).

Tim Scharwath, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding, shared his enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing, “By delivering crucial healthcare to children in El Salvador and beyond, we are fulfilling our mission of connecting people and improving lives.”

DHL’s Global Humanitarian Logistics Center, situated in Dubai, will oversee the planning and management of logistics for Kinderherzen. The shipment, consisting of 11 containers, has been transported via ocean and road freight from Bremen, Germany, to the Nacional Juan José Fernández hospital in the district of Zacamil in El Salvador. Upon arrival, it will take 15 days to construct and install the mobile clinic, preparing it to conduct procedures across the Middle American country.

Dr. Andreas E. Urban, Chairman of the board and founder of the NGO Kinderherzen, affirmed, "Our goal is to ensure that infants affected by congenital heart diseases (CHD) receive access to life-saving surgeries and therapies, irrespective of their place of birth. Partnering with DHL, one of the foremost global logistics providers, will significantly aid us in achieving this mission."

The clinic in El Salvador is scheduled to remain open until May 2024, after which it will be relocated to Burundi. This relocation is part of an annual rotation to support Kinderherzen's global mission.
